Don’t Call It A Comeback!!!
10 years ago today - I ran my first Marathon. I trained for 8 months, and had never run before at all. A love of Disney and medals (and doing something that seemed impossible for me) kept me going and going. In the last 10 years I’ve run 9 marathons and over 30 half marathons (plus 10ks and 5ks). I made new friends through running - started a blog (which was weird, but people read it and Chobani sent me free yogurt, so that was cool), I was inspired by others - and I think I got one or two people that to do a race because I was able to.
The last three years - a combo of going back to work full time, two kids, some injuries, and just a LOT of life has brought my running almost back to zero. That’s hard to admit, and it’s harder that it’s true. But I’m so happy that this was a huge part of my life, and I hope to find my stride again. Maybe not marathons - but just consistency. To celebrate 10 years since this race, I started again. Very slowly and not far. But consistently. So far, I’ve done some run (at least a mile) 9 times in 9 days in 2021 and I feel amazing. I had been bummed that I was back at zero, and had been for awhile. But it’s ok to be where you are. And this pic reminds me that “it’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” It reminds me where I started and what I was able to achieve. And it gives me hope I can get there again - one step at a time.
